Market and promote your brand or products directly into China Mainland in Mandarin and English
Global Wine Company has been observing the potential for wine sales in China since 2007. We have been contacted by, negotiated with and traveled to China to see first hand what we could observe about the state of the wine market in mainland China.
We decided in 2009 to seriously pursue business in the Chinese wine market after we were engaged by a Chinese company ordering 9 containers of wine. We signed that contract in Beijing which went unfulfilled in the end but it was a rapid learning experience which broadened our understanding of the market and deepened our resolve to participate in what is shaping up to be a new wine market with huge growth potential. We detect interest in wine accessories as well as wine.
Projections are for 20% growth in wine consumption in China by 2012.
The appeal of wine and the status of wine has infected the Chinese culture. It is widely seen as a betterment to life and an excellent gift choice. More importantly the discussion of wine and promotion of wine enjoyment has entered the advertising market and is well received by China's growing middle class as well as the new wealthy as a result of China's constant economic growth.
The country now has the world's fastest growing market for wine, with an estimated 600 million consumers. In 2007, Chinese wine consumption was estimated at a huge 800 million bottles.
Pursuing this new opportunity is not for the faint of heart. There are obstacles to overcome and like any emerging market there are risks and lessons to be learned. In addition, China is a country just emerging in many ways with communications outside the mainland and the primary language is mandarin.
To overcome these obstacles we've hired a Chinese translator, fluent in English, and sales agent in China and we've launched a website with a web host based in the mainland of China.
Unlike many websites outside of China which are simply not accessible if you are in mainland China, our website can be viewed throughout China and is a .com.cn URL which means it's a China listed website and viewable throughout mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
We are now launching the promotion of the website and our Chinese wine agent will become active making contacts and responding to Chinese buyers and importers. At Global Wines we are in daily contact with our agent and Director of Sales.
We believe this is a great opportunity and we invite you to join us by listing your products on the Global Wines website. There is strength in numbers we believe and plenty of opportunity for all in this modern day Klondike.
For a nominal monthly fee and translation cost your brand and message will be on a website
Global Wine Company in China directed to the Chinese wine market.
This website is bi-lingual and your image and any text will be translated into Mandarin. Your listing(s) will show on our separate English and Mandarin pages. Besides promoting the listings generally by phone and e-mail our China sales agent will respond to any inquiries on your behalf and translate the information which will be sent to you plus follow-up.
Wine Trade Show in China
Our goal for the remainder of 2009 is to develop buyer contacts in the months of September, October and early November. We plan on hosting a booth at the
Guangzhou International Wine and Spirits Exhibition. The booth size will be determined by the size of our Wine Associates group.
For our Wine Associates we will offer the opportunity to meet on your behalf the contacts we develop and to present your products at this important wine trade show at the end of November. We'll work to co-ordinate clearing and delivery of your products and marketing materials to the trade show.
If you decide to attend we'll work to co-ordinate a translator and accomodations. We will be there with a translator to answer all questions, take leads and sign any deals that have been developed in advance.
Guangzhou located in the southern part of China is China's third most populous city and is located only 174 kilometers or 100 miles from Hong Kong, a burgeoning wine market in it's own right.

Wine Associates Expenses and Planning
Our program now is to build a group of quality suppliers, in addition to our own resources, and be one of the first organizations to present a group of diversified suppliers to the Chinese buyers. We're aiming at good pricing and we'd like to build a 'blanket' of exposure - new world and old world to broaden the chance that we have something to offer every potential buyer.
Your products are an important step in building our juggernaut.
Our costs for participation via the website and trade show are nominal and organized like this:
Wine Associate listing: $250 one time for a listing as an associate plus $25/month ongoing which includes our promotion to buyers, communications both parties and translating services.
Enlarged Wine Associate listing: If a Wine Associate wants, beyond their listing and logo, a page on their company and wines, images we'll create it and translate it for a fee which will depend on the size and number of images.
Wine sales (we're contemplating the following structure):
- If GWC has a buyer and one of our associates wines are part of the deal we'll add a percentage to the wine associates wholesale price and charge the buyer a final price and organize a consolidated shipment.
- If a buyer negotiates with our Wine Associate directly as a result of their listing and we mediate the communications then we ask 3% of the deal.
Trade Show in late November: We'll bring along our Wine Associates with wine samples and literature. If a representative is coming to the fair, helping to get invitations for visas if needed.
We'll handle the organizing, decide the size of the space we need and allocate cost of the booth among the participants. Participants would be responsible for the cost of getting their samples and literature there. The Trade Shows offers an agent for assisting in clearing etc..
Booth cost ranges from 1500 to 2000 euros depending on size with a deadline of September 30th. My estimate is that booth shares will be 300 to 400 euros each.
Finally, determination will be based on the number of participants and the size of the booth we think we'll need. We're gathering information now on shipping and clearing wine samples.
