Current
After study and travel in the Chinese wine market beginning in 2009, a new company Global Wine East Asia Company was registered at Hong Kong in June of 2010 to manage importing and distribution at Hong Kong and exporting wine to the mainland China market. With temperature controlled warehouses at Hong Kong and at mainland Guangzhou's Huangpu port area Global is well positioned to service both growing wine markets. With the participation of our wineries we have introduced our portfolio of wines in Guangzhou and Hong Kong through popular business to business wine exhibitions and fairs.
To serve the mainland China market Global Wine East Asia Company beginning August 2011 has partnered with Lawrence Yuan, a rising and visionary wine merchant at Guangzhou. The new partnership operates in China under the name Global Wines and handles all aspects of importing, marketing and sales in mainland China.
Global Wines' Director of Sales and Marketing is Lawrence Yuan, managing all aspects of sales and marketing in mainland China. Our Operations manager is Wang Lei, also located at Guangzhou where she is co-ordinating in Mandarin and English all aspects of operations into China. Global Wines is currently adding sales positions to support our growth.
History
The Global Wines concept and company was founded in 1989 by Michael Fallow, a university trained winemaker and wine entrepreneur who made wine and worked in the vineyards of Napa Valley California for 15 years before expanding his business scope.
Global Wines succeeded Michael Fallow's original and founding company known as Artisan Wines. Artisan Wines began in 1983, a visionary winemaking and marketing company started by Michael Fallow and built by the team of Michael Fallow and Jeffrey Caldeway, a graphic designer specializing in wine labels and a gift for marketing. The early conception of Artisan Wine Company was a three tiered menu of California wines under the labels of Michael's, Cruvinet and Ultravino plus an import brand of small producer European wines marketed under Artisan's own label, Cru Artisan. The goal and philosophy of Artisan Wines has always been to focus on the smaller and artisanal production of wine with a belief that in winemaking smaller is generally better as a means to the expression of the original grapes and the benefits that come with personal and individualized care. Artisan and Global have always strived to provide exceptional wines at each price level.
Artisan Wine Company was incorporated into Global Wine Company in 1989 as the California negociant division. Fulfilling the larger pursuit of a passion for European wines brought Michael Fallow to New York in 1990 where he worked with Tricana Imports, an importer and distributor of small, high quality wine producers of Italy, France and Spain.
Other Global Wines enterprises in this period included creation of a wine distributorship in the West Indies, the Nevis Island Wine Company, with Michael Todd who later founded the wine publication Grapezine; consulting on wine growing and production on the Hawaiian island of Lanai; a marketing collaboration with the firm of Wilson Daniels, promoting the Madiera island wines of producer Henriques & Henriques; travel to investigate the feasibility of developing the wine market for US brands in Cuba; Global Wines began operating under a new partnership in 1997 with Gavin Gracey, a food and beverage specialist from South Africa, reinvigorating the Artisan Wine Company and producing California wines under the Harvest and CruVinet labels; Fallow also served as onsulting and flying winemaker for John Sambrooke's Canadian Black Prince wine venture in the new Ontario growing region of Prince Edward County.
In 2000 Michael Fallow and wine partner Gavin Gracey joined with wine importer Sam Levitas of Tricana Imports to expand the distribution of Tricana's Italian, French and Spanish wines in northern California. The well appointed portfolio of wines included European wines plus a small representation of California, Oregon and Virginia wines.
In late 2004 Tricana Imports assumed the distribution operation begun by Global Wines, continuing operations under the new title of Global-Tricana Wines.
In 2004 Michael Fallow departed the US and began exploring the emerging wine export market of Argentina and in 2005 paired with working partner Federico Bensadon of Mendoza, Argentina, operating as B&F Wine Negociants - Argentina. Global Wine Company began importing the B&F Argentina wines to the US and Canada.
